Tips to Save on Travel

Tips to Save on Travel

Be flexible on travel dates.

Whether you are flying or driving, there are cheaper days to fly and stay in hotels. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are the bargain days to fly. Check your hotel for their “off week” rates, typically in the middle of the week. Airfare search sites with flexible schedule booking features let you see the best price within a window of dates.

Book your flight 49 days out.

When reviewed records for more than 11,000 domestic flights, it found that the best ticket prices were secured about seven weeks before departure, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Tell your financial institution and credit card company.
Some financial institutions and credit card companies will flag an out of town charge as fraudulent. Tell them your trip details so you don’t get caught with a declined card.

Save on gas and drinks

Use GasBuddy or CheapGas app to find the cheapest gas on your route. Need a drink? Buy a fountain drink instead of a bottle…you get more bang for your buck with a Big Gulp. Better yet, pack your own refreshments and snacks.
